H2G2

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a great book - sci fi but also a lot more. It takes you on a magical journey through space and you encounter such weird characters as Marvin the Paranoid Android - "I'm so depressed!" Zaphod Beeblebrox - the two headed, three armed space pirate, Trillian etc etc.
[Interesting fact - Trillian the chat programme is named after the character from this book. I am a font of useless trivia :) ]

The book follows the journey of Arthur Dent and his friend Ford Prefect (an alien, although Arthur does not know this, initially). Earth has been destroyed to make way for a new road through space and so the two brave adventurers go off in search of "the meaning of life, the universe and everything". Do they succeed? Read the book and find out. BTW - the movie was rubbish, so if you watched it and thought "What's all the fuss about?", read the book and enjoy - or, if you see it on DVD or audio CD, get the BBC series of the show (either radio or tv - both are excellent).
If you are looking for something totally different then this is the book for you, oh and you can even help to create a real online version of the guide here.
